States update regulations frequently. Always verify requirements with your state appraisal board and the Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB) criteria.
Reducing barriers
Why the requirements matter.
The federal PAVE Action Plan highlighted the barriers to entering the appraisal profession: multiple levels of licensing, as many as 3,000 hours of often unpaid training experience, and a four-year degree. It can take years to become a Certified General Appraiser.
The Appraisal Foundation’s Appraiser Qualifications Board sets the minimum criteria, and many states add requirements of their own. RSDS and AppraisalU exist to make that path achievable.
